I also hoped it was only a cruel joke.
No one likes to lose a real mate, and Erold has left a large void that
no-one can replace. He left friends in his wake wherever he went. No matter
if it was only on the list or in person, the Whale made a definite
impression on you.
In Albany in April, Michael Wass, Erold and I had our bikes parked
together across the road from the cafe where we were seated. We were
watching the passers-by ogling the bikes and occasionally touching one to
Erolds disgust. I had an alarm on my bike with a remote start which I used
the next time one poor old codger was leaning down touching my bike. The
look on his face when the engine roared into life was only matched by
Erolds when he realised that this was one toy Leonard was missing. We
laughed long and loud that day.
I will have a cold one for you tonight.
